This week’s Phish Jam is from last year’s summer tour! The song is called Simple, and if you enjoy the mediocrity of some of their lyrics, this is the song for you! The jam is an improvisational monster that moves from low-key grooves to a powerful heavy rocking tribal-esque theme to a majestic major-key finale. It is a long jam, but worth it if you make it to end!

Jam starts at 3:44: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlcHi4c_22w

Enjoy my phriends!

Hello my Phellow Phish Phans!

This week’s Phish Jam is a Harry Hood from the Fall ’95 tour. It is one of my favorites for several reasons: it has a nice build-up, several good places where the band builds tension and then resolves, and Trey’s ’95 guitar tone. In general, most people in the community agree that the Harry Hoods from mid-90s are the best, though there are some discrepancies over which one is the best. A lot of people like the one from 12-31-1993 (also included here for reference). I like the one from 10-21-1995. The one in 1993 features more guitar shredding, the 1995 jam tells a better story (in my opinion). You decide which one you prefer!

1993, jam starts around 5:45: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z15ORtarX4
It has just come to my attention that the first part of the 1995 video has gone missing on youtube, but the part 1 video didn’t have any of the jam anyways, so it doesn’t matter that much. You can listen to the whole jam from the part 2 video.1995 part 2, jam starts around 0:50: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyCtz9k8niw

Enjoy!

Hello Phans! I’m sure you’re all still recovering after the 3 night run at Dick’s this past weekend. What a great weekend it was! I’ve decided to take this week’s jam from Dick’s N1, which was probably the best show of the weekend (average rating of 4.6/5 on phish.net, which makes it one of the top rated shows of all time). Phish decided to upload 2 songs to Youtube from that night, the show opener (Free) and Blaze On, both of which I’ve selected for this week! It is my opinion (and also the opinion of at least one other Youtube commenter) that these were not the best jam of the night. Check out the second slot Harry Hood, Ghost>Crosseyed and Painless, or second set closer Light. Anyways, this is what we have on Youtube, and they’re still pretty good jams.

Blaze On is a straight up Phish 3.0 song, coming off their latest studio album released in 2016 (Big Boat). This will provide a nice contrast to last week’s DwD jam from 1995. See how Phish has evolved! Skip to 4:15 for the jam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cNrk2bEebQ

Free was released on Phish’s 1996 studio album, Billy Breathes (one of my favorites!) This is from the Live Stream, which begins around 2:45 (jam starts at 7:06): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kV5yYOGtz4M

Hello my fellow phish heads and welcome to “Your Weekly Phish Jam!” Once a week, I’ll send out a YouTube link with a new Phish song. Most will be live, but there will be an occasional studio version if it has a good jam.

We last left off somewhere in the midst of the fall ’97 tour commonly referred to as the “Phish Destroys America” tour. We’ll make our way back there at some point.

For those of you new to Phish, I though we’d ease in with a short Down with Disease jam from the fall ’95 tour (’95 was a very good year). You may listen to the whole song (~7 minutes) or skip to 3:20 for the jam. Things really start to heat up around 5:50. I highly recommend watching the light show!
